    Fourteen 6 cm-thick Périgord oak treads, fixed to a stone wall with hidden brackets. No risers or stringer: the light from the bay window passes straight through.

    We were afraid it would be impossible in an old house. Antoine found a way, and the staircase has become the centrepiece of the home.

    A 19th-century walnut sideboard, dulled by decades of wax and sunlight. Gentle stripping, re-gluing of the joints, a repaired foot, cleaned hardware, then a beeswax finish.

    My grandmother's sideboard has its original colour back. I didn't think it was still possible.
